When should I replace my boiler instead of repairing it?

  • Warranty Has Expired: If your boiler is 12 years old or more, it may no longer be under warranty. Also, many replacement parts are slow to come in (due to supply chain issues or extreme weather conditions) or are no longer available.
Our technicians will diagnose, check parts availability, and explain both options.
  • More Efficient: If you own a boiler that is over 35 years old, you should consider a replacement for the efficiency value alone. Newer equipment is designed to be more energy efficient.
  • Wasting Energy: If you have a boiler that uses a standing pilot (pilot light that is always lit), you should consider replacing your system. Pilot lights continuously burn gas, even when the boiler isn't heating, which wastes energy and increases your energy bills. Modern boilers only use gas when necessary, improving efficiency and lowering costs.
  • Expensive Repairs: If your system requires repairs that exceed 1/3 of the price of a replacement, we recommend replacement over repair. Other parts (not associated with performed repairs) often break shortly after repair, so those parts would result in additional expenses as well.
  • Save Money: If you can save money on utilities by buying a new system, consider it. Newer or higher rated equipment can save you money on energy consumption, possibly with better heating performance. Those savings can pay for your new system over the life of the system.
