Home Furnace Repair Common Problems

There are three common things that may cause your furnace to stop operating properly or at all. These common problems are easy for the homeowner to check and fix to avoid having to call a service technician to your home.....

1.) Clogged or Dirty Air Filter

The air filter attached to your furnace becoming clogged or dirty is one of the most common reasons for a furnace to stop working. Air filters need to be changed in different time increments depending on their size, the amount of dust in your home, if you have pets or many other reasons. Checking your filter monthly and replacing the filter accordingly will make sure that your furnace continues to operate properly.

2.) Dead Batteries in the Thermostat or a Failed Thermostat

A failed thermostat or dead batteries in the thermostat will also cause your furnace to stop working. If the thermostat in your home is “blank”, replace the batteries. If this does not work, you most likely need a new thermostat. Thermostats can be purchased by homeowners and installed, but we do recommend having one of our service technicians to your home to do this work.

3.) Plugged or Kinked Drain Lines

Highly efficient furnaces and air conditioners have drain lines to allow the water/condensate that is produced in the equipment to drain (most commonly into a floor drain). Over time these lines can become dirty and stop draining, which can cause your furnace to stop operating. Blowing through the lines or replacing them will get your furnace back operating properly. In other instances, the drain lines will become kinked or something is accidentally set on them blocking them from draining. Un-kinking or unclogging the line and/or moving the item that has caused it to be blocked will solve the issue.

If you have checked these three common problems and your furnace still does not work properly, please do not hesitate to give us a call, we are more than happy to schedule a service technician to come to your home and get your equipment running properly.
