This Christmas, we’d like to make sure every one of our readers “stays warm” when the temperatures drop. Here are three drink recipes for holiday entertaining; two are with alcohol and the third without. Cheers to a happy holiday and a great new year!
- 1 oz (2 tablespoons) bourbon
- 1 tablespoon mild honey
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup boiling-hot water
Mix everything together and enjoy!
Glühwein (Mulled wine)
- 3/4 cup water
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 orange
- 10 whole cloves
- 1 bottle red wine (750 ml)
In a saucepan, combine water, red wine, orange, cloves, cinnamon and sugar. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer.
Cut one orange in half, squeeze juice into the simmering water. Push the whole cloves into the outside of the orange peel, and place peel in the simmering water. Continue simmering for 30 minutes, until thick and syrupy.
Pour in one 750 ml bottle of red wine, and heat until steaming but not simmering. Remove the clove-studded orange halves.
Serve hot in mugs or glasses that have been preheated in warm water (cold glasses will break.).
Winter Lemonade (Nonalcoholic)
With only four ingredients (water among them), you can make this in just three minutes flat – three minutes in the microwave to heat the water in which you add a slice of lemon skewered with a cinnamon stick and two teaspoons of honey. Let it seep a bit. The herbal quality also makes it ideal for sore throats or congested noses. A surprisingly perfect winter drink!
Please drink responsibly this holiday season.
